CPD
is an ongoing professional requirement for all registered practitioners
of psychotherapy and counselling.
At CCPE we are now offering an opportunity for practitioners from any
background to learn and develop from our expertise and experience in the
area of Transpersonal Psychotherapy.
CCPE is both a teaching college and a therapy centre. We have 24
years experience in both areas and are offering that experience to practitioners
who wish to add something of the spiritual perspective to their view of
psychology and psychotherapy.
These weekends on offer form part of a four-year diploma training in Transpersonal
Psychotherapy.
You will begin each day with a lecture of 1 - 1/2 hours duration introducing
the themes of the weekend. For this you will join the main body
of students training with CCPE. After a break you will join a small group for the rest of the day. This group will compose of others on the CPD programme and will be facilitated
by a staff member of CCPE.
These groups will provide a mix of teaching, exploration and experiential
work that are intended to provide a holistic experience of the subject. All facilitators will be qualified supervisors and case material can also
be brought and explored through the lens of the transpersonal.
Details of CCPE weekends are linked from the table or you can see them listed here, DSM IV and Body-Centred Psychotherapy details are below.
The Clinical Workshops I – ‘An introduction to diagnosis’
In this workshop we will explore the DSM-IV, the most widely used diagnostic system for mental difficulties. We will look at:
• The management and treatment of ‘Mental Illness’, including the role of mental health nurses, occupational therapists and psychiatrists;
• The basics of the legislative and organisational framework, including the Mental Health Act, the Care Programme Approach and the various agencies involved;
• Skills in assessing and responding to the range of responses to shock and trauma, bereavement and spiritual crisis and differentiating these from severe mental illness;
• Different drug treatments that are available and their effects and short and long term side-effects;
• The negative aspects of the use of diagnosis and then move on to explore how diagnosis can be used constructively and creatively in the service of our clients.
• An overview of the range of mental difficulties acknowledged by the DSM-IV.
This workshop will introduce you to the basics of this amazing diagnostic system.
The Clinical Workshops II – ‘The Anxiety Disorders’
In this workshop we’ll begin by exploring a number of the Anxiety Disorders including Panic Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, and a number of other Phobias. These are amongst the most common difficulties encountered in clinical practice. The rest of the day will be spent looking at a cognitive therapy understanding and treatment of panic attacks. This is, by far, the most successful method for treating this problem. This workshop will help you to recognize the various anxiety difficulties and will enable you to treat panic attacks from a cognitive point of view.
The Clinical Workshops III – ‘The Mood Disorders’
In this workshop we will explore the clinical approach to various Mood Disorders with the emphasis being on depression, perhaps the most common clinical problem of all. We will look at the biological and psychological aspects of depression, an understanding of anti-depressants, the assessment of suicide risk, and the cognitive therapy approach to the treatment of depression. This workshop is designed to compliment your present understanding of depression thus helping you to be more confident in dealing with this common difficulty.
The Clinical Workshops IV – ‘The Eating Disorders and Schizophrenia’
In the first part of this workshop we will have a brief look at a number of eating problems including anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating. The emphasis will be on compulsive overeating and bulimia. Most of the day will be spent exploring various clinical aspects of Schizophrenia in a way that will enable us to be more familiar with this difficult disorder. This workshop will enable you to be more confident in the worlds of the eating disorders and Schizophrenia.
The Clinical Workshops V – ‘Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and the Dissociative Disorders’
In the first part of the morning, we’ll look at the complex diagnosis of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. We will then go on to explore a cognitive therapy approach to the treatment of this difficulty. This is certainly the most successful psychological approach to this problem. The rest of the day will be spent on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, disorders that are extremely difficult to recognize until one is familiar with them. Although they are not uncommon, they are very often missed. Consequently, we will explore a detailed assessment procedure for these disorders. This workshop will leave you more confident with both Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and the Dissociative Disorders and it will enable you to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder from a cognitive perspective.
The Clinical Workshops VI – ‘The Personality Disorders’
In this workshop you will be given insight into all ten of the Personality Disorders (Borderline, Narcissistic, Paranoid, Schizoid, Antisocial, Histrionic, Schizotypal, Avoidant, Dependant, and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorders). You will be enabled to recognize and have a much greater understanding of each of these personality difficulties.

For therapists and lay people interested in working with dreams from both psychological and spiritual perspectives, following the guidance expressed trough the physical body.
In the safety of a small group (8 participants maximum, 3 minimum) you will learn to allow your dreams to unfold and reveal your inner guidance.
You will also learn to facilitate others in their dream work.
Typically the tutor will work one to one with a dream, allowing the members of the group to contribute as they gain confidence with the model.
Theory is introduced as and when appropriate. Some familiarity with the work of Carl Jung is encouraged, together with an interest all mythologies and in the spiritual models of the journey of the soul through the planes of consciousness. However our main guide shall be the movement of energy and the power emotions as they manifest in the body. Understanding of the chakra system and energy therapy is also part of our work.
To obtain the certificate participants need to be qualified therapists, have attended for a minimum of 90 hours (4 terms, or 3 terms plus some week-ends) and demonstrated to the group’s satisfaction their ability to facilitate dreamwork safely, from both the psychological and the spiritual perspective.
All participants will gain CPD certificate of attendance for the hours they have attended.
